Origin of LCD Polarizer film

Polarizer film were born in 1938, invented and industrially produced by Edwin H. Land of Polaroid (USA).

Concept of LCD Polarizer film

A LCD Film polarisant is a sheet of optical functional material that generates and detects polarized light, and is a key component that affects the display effect of LCDs. Its main function is to polarize the natural light passing through the polarizer.

Structure and Classification of Polarizers

Polarize film can be divided into transmissive polarizers, reflective polarizers, and semi-reflective and semi-transmissive polarizers. At present, the upper and lower polarizers of TFT-LCD are transmission type. Reflective and semi-transparent polarizers are mainly used for the lower polarizers of TN and STN-LCDs. The structure of different types of polarizers is not the same, but most of them are composed of protective film, TAC sheet base, PVA polarizing film, bonding layer and isolation film.

LCD Polarizer film working principle

In the structure of liquid crystal display devices, the polarizer only allows light waves in a certain direction to pass through, while light waves vibrating in other directions will be blocked in whole or in part. Natural light from the backlight passes through the lower polarizer to form polarized light with the same direction of polarization, which is sent to the liquid crystal layer; the liquid crystal molecules are twisted under the control of the TFT, thus controlling the light flux and changing the brightness of the light leading to the pixel unit behind; therefore, the original direction of the same direction of the polarized light becomes inconsistent with the direction of polarization after the twisting of the liquid crystal layer; the upper polarizer is orthogonal to the direction of the polarization of the lower polarizer, which can revert the light waves that have passed through the twisting of the liquid crystal into a new direction of polarization. The upper polarizer and the lower polarizer polarization direction is orthogonal, it can deflect the light after the liquid crystal twisting again, different angles of light through the upper polarizer brightness is different, so we can see on the screen can see the light and dark alternating picture, due to the deflected light through the color film, so we see is the color of the image.
